Ex-finance minister Carlos Leitao will not seek a new mandate.

The politician was first elected in 2014, in the riding of Robert-Baldwin, located in the West Island of Montreal. During this first term, he served as Minister of Finance under the government of Philippe Couillard. His reign as minister was marked by a period of austerity or budgetary rigour, depending on one’s point of view.
On the opposition benches, he held several roles in the Liberal shadow cabinet. He is currently the Official Opposition Critic for Infrastructure, Integrity in Public Procurement, Public Finance and the Fight Against Climate Change.
Mr. Leitao is the twelfth in the Liberal caucus to announce that he will not be on the starting blocks in the 2022 general election. All have announced that they are retiring from political life.
