The chief whip of the Legault government and MP for Arthabaska Éric Lefebvre leaves the Coalition Avenir Québec caucus and announces that he will wear the colors of the Conservative Party of Canada.
“I have submitted my resignation to the Prime Minister, since I will be running for the Conservative Party of Canada in the next federal election,” he announced on social media.
Mr. Lefebvre indicated that he will now sit as an independent MP, and that he will “continue his work with the citizens of Arthabaska”. There will therefore be no by-election in the Arthabaska constituency for the moment.
François Legault reacted in the evening: “Éric Lefebvre informed me this evening of his decision to join the Conservative Party of Canada. In this context, I asked him to withdraw from the CAQ caucus. Thank you Eric for your years of public service and good luck in your new challenges. »
