(Evian-Les-Bains) Japan’s Ayaka Furue eagled her final hole to win the Evian Championship on Sunday, her first career major title.
The 24-year-old kept her composure, sinking her eagle putt after making three birdies in the previous four flags to finish at 19-under 265.
Furue finished one shot ahead of Australian Stephanie Kyriacou (67), the leader after three rounds, and two ahead of Thailand’s Patty Tavatanakit, who shot a superb 8-under 63 to stay in the race until the very end.
Canadian Brooke Henderson (71) had to settle for par for a second day in a row, taking 26e echelon in the final standings at 279 (minus-5). She had two eagles, but committed four bogeys.
When it was time to start at 18eFurue and Kyriacou were tied at 17 under with Tavatanakit, who had already finished his round. Furue hit a good tee shot, while Kyriacou hit his ball into the long grass.
Furue reached the green on her second shot to give herself a chance at the title, and moments later she was doused in champagne. Her previous best finish at a major was fourth, at Evian-les-Bains in 2021.
Kyriacou, who recorded a birdie on the 18thealso achieved his best result in a major tournament. Tavatanakit had won the Chevron Championship in 2021.
