Evian Championship | Ayaka Furue in the lead; Canadian Brooke Henderson 16th

(Evian) Japan’s Ayaka Furue was leading by three shots at the Evian Championship on Friday when the second round was interrupted due to the risk of thunderstorms.

Organizers decided to evacuate players from the course due to adverse weather conditions in the area and decided to end the day after 6 p.m. local time as the storm intensified.

With five holes to play, Furue was at 12 under after 31 pennants, ahead of Australian Stephanie Kyriacou and South Korean Haeran Ryu, both at 9 under.

Kyriacou completed 16 holes in his second round and Ryu finished 11.

American Angela Stanford, who won her first major title at the Evian Championship in 2018, was tied for fourth with Patty Tavatanakit at 8 under.

The defending champion, Frenchwoman Celine Boutier, shot 68 and is at minus-5.

“I feel like my game has been really solid the last two days,” Boutier said. “I definitely feel like my long game has kind of carried me, and I feel like I could have had lower scores both days, so that’s pretty positive. Because I can get better.”

A total of 66 players will return on Saturday to complete their second round before the cut is made.
