The heat fell on France, Wednesday, June 15. Temperatures are expected to rise further through the end of the week.
Water points were stormed in all cities on Wednesday, June 15. “It’s better than staying locked up or going for a walk (…) a little bit of water, it feels good”, says a woman. In Brittany, more than 30 degrees were recorded on the beaches. “At least by the sea, there is a bit of wind, a bit of air, it feels good”assures a man.
Those who take the train worry about how the rails and catenaries withstand the heat. The SNCF reassures, “we put in place personnel who can intervene directly to repair”, says Florent Kunc, deputy director of the SNCF territorial management, New Aquitaine network. The heat did not spare the high school students in the middle of the philosophy test. “We were given bottles of cold water”, says a student. Scorching temperatures are expected until the end of the week.
