Sunday February 18, Bruno Le Maire announced on TF1 10 billion euros in savings for the year 2024. “We are facing a slowdown in growth in the world, with the war in Ukraine and the slowdown in China”explained Thomas Cazenave, Minister for Public Accounts, Monday on France 2. “As revenues fall, we must reduce spending so as not to let the public deficit deteriorate”, he continued. While it was initially forecast at 1.4% in 2024, France’s growth was finally revised to 1%.

The 10 billion euros in savings, “it’s the State that takes them on its shoulders”assured Thomas Cazenave. “Everyone will tighten their belts, all ministries are concerned”he detailed. “We will first reduce state operating expenses. We will make 750 million euros in savings on our purchases, we will reduce office space by almost 25% by 2030”affirmed the Minister for Public Accounts.
