“Everyone has an interest in there being no vote, except the National Rally”, declares Julien Odoul, deputy for Yonne and spokesperson for the National Rally, Friday February 17 evening on franceinfo. The debates in the National Assembly are coming to an end without approaching article 7 of the bill, concerning the postponement of the legal retirement age. The spokesperson for the National Rally points to the New Popular Ecological and Social Union (Nupes), and a “useless, sterile and outrageous parliamentary guerrilla operation for democracy”.

According to Julien Odoul, the absence of a vote in the Assembly will benefit both the Nupes and the majority of Emmanuel Macron, “since it makes it possible to find the pretext to agitate the street and throw oil on the fire” for the former, and “because she is afraid that the text will not pass”. As for the Republicans, Julien Odoul believes that the absence of a vote allows them “to ultimately remain in ambiguity, one foot for reform, one foot against”.
Regarding the motion of censure filed by the RN, “Marine Le Pen and her deputies have rightly honored the vote of voters and democracy since the start of this debate and since the start of this mandate”, believes Julien Odoul. The motion will be examined after midnight on the night of Friday to Saturday, the other parliamentary opposition groups have already announced that they will not vote for the motion.
