Event | Pirate Heart chooses Eliza Faulkner

It was in the workshop of designer Eliza Faulkner that last week we attended the fittings of Béatrice Martin, aka Cœur de pirate, who was choosing an outfit for Les Printemps du MAC. The author-composer and performer will perform during the benefit event for the benefit of the Foundation of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montreal (MAC), on May 17, at the Arsenal. She tried on three very different dresses, without making a definitive choice.

“I really like the designer Eliza Faulkner, I like her style, she knows how to highlight the feminine forms, which makes a flattering silhouette,” confides Béatrice Martin. She tried on a red linen dress, another black one with prints and the last one, very sparkly, is the one that stands out the most. She hesitates… and talks with her stylist Sabrina Deslauriers with whom she has been working for seven years. “There is a desire for fantasy, because it is for Les Printemps du MAC. Choosing a dress is above all the desire to feel good and to feel beautiful. There is an image, that of a woman, a mother and an artist, but also of being yourself,” explains the stylist.

Designer Eliza Faulkner, originally from Vancouver, moved to Montreal in 2016 and focuses on natural materials. “This collection is very girlie, I was inspired by adolescence, there are colors like red, shine, materials like linen, pretty prints and everything is made here, in Montreal,” she explains.

Fittings and choosing outfits for events are part of the singer’s job. “I like these moments when I can show another side of my personality with creations, chic outfits, and even costumes. Recently, I was shopping with my boyfriend and he said to me, “I have a lot of respect for your stylist”! I never find anything in stores! Several times a year, Sabrina brings me a whole selection of clothes and we sort through them. I try it out, I see if it’s comfortable and if I’ll be able to wear the clothes again, which is important,” she emphasizes.

Béatrice Martin’s style has evolved over the years. She knows what she wants, she favors comfort and black remains a must for her. “I’m going to be 35, I’m more on the practical side, even if I have a very eclectic style. I have a lot of respect for the work of designers, they set the trends, but I always dress according to my desires. Black will always be present, but I am open to wearing color and transparency. I like to have fun with fashion, and I now prefer what is done in Copenhagen to what is done in Paris. »
