When we dissect CF Montreal’s first six games abroad in 2022, we discover that Wilfried Nancy’s men played almost half the time in deficit. And yet, they display an honorable record so far in opposing territory. However, Kamal Miller and Victor Wanyama do not seem too surprised.

Miller and Wanyama, two stalwarts of the team, offered different theories as to why CF Montreal continues to collect valuable points in the standings on rival grounds, and mostly from behind.
CF Montreal have already accumulated eight points in six road outings (2-2-2), even though the team has played exactly 269 minutes out of 540 (not counting stoppage time) with a loss of at least a goal.
“I think we know we’re a really good team and when it’s our day we can beat anybody,” Miller said after Tuesday’s practice at Center Nutrilait.
“We understand that we have our own style of play in the league and nobody really plays like us. So we are going to hurt all the teams we are going to face. We are in good physical condition, we are strong, and the way we train prepares us to increase the pressure at the end of games and get results,” added the Canadian defender.
The most recent victims of this new “mania” of CF Montreal – and not the least – were the players of the Philadelphia Union, Saturday, at Subaru Park.
After conceding a goal to the Eastern Conference leaders on a penalty at the 21and minute of play, CF Montreal gave nothing else.
Also, he took advantage of the appearance of Kei Kamara in the second half to create the equality at 59and minute and eventually take a point in the standings in a duel that ended 1-1.
In previous weeks, CF Montreal has also beaten FC Cincinnati (4-3) and the New York Red Bulls (2-1) on the road after having to overcome 1-0 setbacks.
“We call it the ‘CF Montreal Way’, which is never giving up,” Wanyama said.
“We have a way of playing where we all fight together as a team. It’s us. (Last Saturday), we fought until the end and we went for a point,” added the Kenyan midfielder and captain of CF Montreal.
Miller and Wanyama also returned to Saturday’s meeting, facing a team that had won its three previous outings in front of its supporters thanks to as many shutouts.
“We started a little slow, but as the game progressed, we got better,” analyzed Wanyama, who considers that CF Montreal could have won this duel.
Miller was also very satisfied with the Montreal team’s performance against a quality formation, as he recalled.
“We did a good job coming back from a 1-0 deficit. (The Union) ranks first in the East; it’s for a reason. I think we could have gotten even more out of this game. In the second half, we forced the game and created chances. Another day, maybe we would have deserved the victory. »
CF Montreal players (3-3-2) will resume training Wednesday at Center Nutrilait in anticipation of their next match, which will take place Saturday afternoon, at Saputo Stadium, against Atlanta United (3-3-2).
