Eve Landry | The quiet volcano of District 31

Eve Landry closely followed the reaction of the public on Facebook and Twitter on October 18, when she joined the team of District 31. But to preserve her sanity, she has not returned since. “I’m not made of ice,” she explains.

Overall, fans of the popular crime drama gave a warm welcome to the new lieutenant character, called in to replace Gabrielle Simard (Geneviève Brouillette). But whatever, Eve Landry did not intend to peel the thousands of comments listed for days.

“When I saw that she was taking the test and a lot of people were adopting her, I was like, ‘OK, thank you, bye!’ Because otherwise, it plays a little too much in my head ”, affirms the actress in interview.

Of course, some viewers did not hesitate to deliver their verdict after just half an hour. Since at the start, Mélanie Charron was particularly stingy with smiles, the recruit has attracted some criticism: “stupid”, “cold” … But in recent weeks, she has shown that she can also show empathy (his poles stretched out towards Bruno) and humor, enough to appease hesitant viewers.

I cannot ignore the negative comments. There is one that stays anchored somewhere all the time.

Eve Landry

Eve Landry describes Mélanie Charron as a woman who prefers to keep people at bay since she lost her patrol partner. After going through her grief by sinking into alcohol, she set herself a goal: to become a lieutenant.

“She doesn’t want to get too attached because she feels she can lose everything. It is a shell, because, deep down, it is sensitive. She takes care of her world, but she establishes her authority to make sure that no one comes and pummels her on her feet. It is a quiet volcano that we gain to know. ”

Rigor, rigor, rigor

Eve Landry was offered the role of Mélanie Charron last summer. Aware of the demands of filming a daily series, the 36-year-old actress was careful to consult her family before agreeing.

“I had a long discussion with my boyfriend to find out if he was also ready to embark on this. Because we have two children. It is not a decision that could be taken like that. ”

In the end, Eve Landry chose to dive because it was an experience that turned her on at the highest point.

“My boyfriend knows me well. He knows that’s the kind of challenge that I like. It’s been a long time since I heard the gang of the 31st say that as an actor, it’s something exceptional to experience. Discipline, rigor… It attracted me a lot. And I couldn’t wait to try. ”

Today, I feel like I’m on a mission. I feel that I have no right to escape it. And I love that.

Nice welcome

Speaking of discipline and busy schedules, Eve Landry has been served for two months, because, in addition to District 31, she has just completed the shootings of Which families, a new documentary series from Unis TV in which she meets families who have chosen to “live differently”. We reached her by phone while she was on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, where the final recording was.

At the end of the line, the actress does not give the impression of being out of breath.

” With District, I discovered an exceptional team with which I have great pleasure to work. I was very well received. I was pretty quiet at first, but today I’m starting to take my place a little more. ”

“I knew we would get along well,” she adds. I knew some people of reputation, but I was also eager to meet Catherine Proulx-Lemay [avec qui elle a joué dans Unité 9], Cynthia Wu-Maheux, my great boyfriend from the Conservatory, and Jeff Boudreault, my friend from Salmigondis.

Different role

This fall, Eve Landry also appears in Reasonable doubt, new detective series by Danielle Dansereau (19-2) who is interested in sex crimes. She encamped there the oncologist Elsie Voyer, wife of a wealthy philanthropist suspected of sexual assault.

After spending years defending unvarnished skinned roles, like Carolanne in Can you hear me ? and Jeanne Biron in Unit 9, Eve Landry was happy to explore a whole different kind of character.

“This is the first time anyone thought of me to play a woman – I would dare say – well dressed, chic. I was made to wear clean shoes! Before, I was the one who went to the CCM [coiffure, costume, maquillage] for tattoos, never for styling! Besides, Elsie’s phrasing is not that of Jeanne or Carolanne. We are in a French much more supported and monitored. Less terroir… ”

“I always start from myself to create a character. For Elsie, I was also part of me, but I moved away very, very quickly! She adds.

At the theatre

Although she thrives on tight schedules, Eve Landry fears the start of the year 2022, when she will have to graft to the filming of District 31 the repetitions ofAn enemy of the people, play by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, directed by Édith Patenaude, which will be presented at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde, in Montreal, from March.

“It could be hellish. But I am prepared. I already know my text. I started to learn it as soon as I accepted District because I saw it coming from afar. ”

“Fortunately, I am well surrounded. We have two very present grandmothers. The fridge is full. I am lucky to have so much help. I can do my work in the evening with a restful mind. ”

District 31 is broadcast on ICI Télé from Monday to Thursday at 7 p.m.

Reasonable doubt is offered on the ICI Tou.tv Extra. The series will be presented on ICI Télé in the winter.
