In Gaza, the first evacuations have begun. Foreigners and dual nationals were able to leave the territory towards Egypt. Ambulances were also authorized to transport the injured.
Wednesday 1st November, at 7:45 a.m., the Gaza gate opened. Hundreds of people were able to rush in to reach Egypt. They were finally able to leave the enclave for the first time in three weeks. According to the Egyptian authorities, 80 injured Palestinians, treated by ambulances, were transferred to Egyptian hospitals. There would also be several hundred dual nationals and foreigners, including five French people.
Dual nationals still stuck in Gaza
The exodus is sudden and full of uncertainty. Without knowing if they will ever return to Gaza, families take all their belongings. They leave behind two million people, including dual nationals, who must remain in the enclave under the bombs and the total blockade imposed by Israel. The Hamas government has requested the transfer of 4,000 additional wounded people who cannot be treated in the Gaza Strip.
