Evacuated stations | Another episode of irritating gas in the subway

Several metro stations had to be evacuated on Sunday evening due to the release of a “cayenne pepper type substance” at the Atwater station. Service was scheduled to resume at 7:45 p.m.

“It is necessary to interrupt the service on the neighboring sections and to evacuate several stations within a certain radius of the incident to allow the emergency ventilation of the tunnels and stations, in accordance with our protocols in force”, indicated. the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), by email.

At that time, service was interrupted on the orange line between Berri-UQAM and Snowdon stations as well as on the green line between Berri-UQAM and Angrignon stations.

Service was due to resume around 7:45 p.m., it was said.

The Montreal Police Department did not immediately call La Presse back to determine if its officers had intervened on the ground.

This is at least the third incident of its kind to occur since the beginning of the year in the Montreal metro.

In early January, two separate events including the presence of irritating gases occurred on the same day, forcing the shutdown of complete lines and the evacuation of passengers.

The SPVM has launched an investigation to identify the suspect or suspects who could still face charges of public mischief.
