This injury could force him to miss this next world championship in Australia… The young man revealed that he felt “a bit tired” before preparing for this Tour of Spain. “When I see since the start of the season, the shitty feelings I’ve had, now I’m happy to be able to do a good job in the Vuelta. It’s getting better and better”he dropped on Sunday August 28 after the 9th stage.

Remco Evenepoel, leader of the race, returned to the abandonment of his teammate: “It’s certainly not a good day as we hoped. Losing Julian Alaphilippe is a big loss. It’s a shame”did he declare. “I hope he’s fine and that he’s not in too much pain. Julian did very good things in a lot of stages and it’s a shame that we lost the world champion because he was really in good shape but I think we’re not the only team losing guys.”
