(Paris) Director Euzhan Palcy, known for her film Rue Cases-Nègreswill receive an Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement on Nov. 19 alongside fellow movie stars, including actor Michael J. Fox.

“Euzhan Palcy is a pioneer whose considerable importance in international cinema is rooted in the history of the 7e art,” Academy Award President David Rubin said in a statement.
“By honoring me with this honorary Oscar, @TheAcademy honors the entire diaspora, women filmmakers, diversity! I am very proud of it, ”reacted the filmmaker on Twitter on Wednesday.
The honorary Oscar pays tribute “to exceptional contributions to the world of cinema or for services rendered to the Academy” which awards the Oscars, said the latter. Filmmaker Agnès Varda received one in 2017.
With Rue Cases-Nègreswhich takes place in Martinique in the 1930s, Euzhan Palcy had won the César for first film in 1984. She had also been rewarded at the Venice Film Festival for this film.
She then cast Marlon Brando in A white and dry season (1989) on apartheid, becoming “the first black woman to direct a film for a major Hollywood studio”, underlines the Academy.
At his side, the actor of Back to the futureMichael J. Fox, will also receive an honorary Oscar, as will composer Diane Warren, a regular Oscar winner with 13 nominations to her credit, and Australian director Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society, The Truman show).
