The organizers did not respond favorably to Volodymyr Zelensky’s request to intervene in a video.
They are the most inveterate fans. In front of the concert hall in Liverpool (United Kingdom), which is about to welcome 6,000 spectators, they started the queue at noon. “It’s the first time here, it’s like a dream come true”, said a spectator. Behind the scenes, after a week of rehearsal, La Zarra is ready to fight. The Quebec singer represents France with a song with a catchy chorus, cut out for Eurovision. “The rehearsal audience was screaming for France last night. She’s amazing”says an Englishwoman.
Russia absent from the competition for the second consecutive year
Between the 26 countries represented, the competition is fierce and sometimes turns into a diplomatic headache. Officially apolitical, the contest still banned Russia for the second consecutive year. And the victory of Ukraine last year causes tensions. Deprived of organizing Eurovision in his country this year because of the war, the Ukrainian president this week criticized the choice of the United Kingdom as the host country. Political disagreements will all the same fade away for one evening, to give way to musical competition.
