On Thursday, June 23, the European Union summit revolved around the question of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. This possible integration could have many consequences.

Will Ukraine join the European Union? Thursday 23 June, the summit of the European Union, in Brussels (Belgium) endeavors to discuss a possible new member within the Union. At the end of the discussions, Ukraine could officially become a candidate. If it were to join the Union, Ukraine would be the fifth most populous country, but economically it is far behind. Corruption is also a real concern in the country.

If Ukraine can acquire candidate status after only four months compared to two years for other applicants, this is the only advantage the country should obtain. Ukraine will have to show its credentials and provide guarantees on several points such as on corruption, a major problem in the country, but also on justice, the press and the oligarchs. The other countries will also have their say since the stages of integration will have to be voted on unanimously.
