David Sassoli was born on May 30, 1956 in Florence, Tuscany, and began working with small newspapers and news agencies after studying political science. He entered politics in 2009, when the Italian Democratic Party was born, and was elected to the European Parliament the same year. He was elected at the head of the assembly in 2019.
