The former employee of the company was in front of the MEPs of the European Parliament, Monday, November 8, in Brussels (Belgium). “Facebook chooses profit over security every day. This network has played on its ability to mask its real behavior by letting our security deteriorate to an unacceptable level.”, she testified. MEPs want to speed up the digital regulation project.
“This law must be strong, and its application strong, otherwise we will lose this unique opportunity to align the future of technology with that of democracy.”, continued Frances Haugen, who has already been heard by the US Congress, in early October. She accuses Facebook of spreading online hatred, disinformation and prioritizing the content that gets the most clicks. The company denies its allegations. Frances Haugen is expected in France, Wednesday, November 10, for her hearing in the Senate.
