Étienne Grandmont is invested candidate of Quebec solidaire in Taschereau

Étienne Grandmont becomes the candidate of Québec solidaire (QS) in the riding of Taschereau, in Québec. He won the nomination on Saturday against Madeleine Cloutier and will try to succeed the solidarity Catherine Dorion who announced in April that she would not seek a new mandate.

Executive director and spokesperson for Accès transports viables, an organization that defends the rights of users of public and active transportation, since September 2012, Étienne Grandmont has made transportation, ecology and urban planning priorities for his country.

Mr. Grandmont had been approached by Manon Massé, co-spokesperson for QS. Ms. Cloutier had obtained the support of the outgoing MP, Ms. Dorion.

“Québec solidaire will send Étienne Grandmont to the National Assembly. He will expose the incompetence of the CAQ in public transport. With him, the 3rd link project will not happen, ”commented on Twitter the co-spokesperson for QS, Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois on Saturday evening.

QS, with Catherine Dorion, won in 2018 with 42% of the vote and a comfortable majority of 8,511 votes over its closest CAQ opponent in this riding once considered a PQ stronghold.

In October, Mr. Grandmont will notably face the Parti Québécois (PQ) candidate, Jeanne Robin. She is the senior director of Vivre en ville, a consulting organization on urban planning and public transit, where Mr. Grandmont also worked.

Pascale St-Hilaire, a manager in the Quebec public service, is a candidate for the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ). The Conservative Party will be represented by Marie-Josée Hélie, who describes herself as an “expert in food self-sufficiency”. The Liberal Party of Quebec (PLQ) has not unveiled a candidate in Taschereau.
