Estrie | A teenager loses his life in an ATV accident in Coaticook

A tragedy struck a family in Estrie on December 24, when a 13-year-old teenager driving a homemade ATV collided with a van on a country road in Coaticook. His death was pronounced at the hospital.

The collision occurred around 5:45 p.m. Sunday on Chemin de Ladds-Mills, approximately 7 kilometers from the center of Coaticook, in Estrie.

The teenager was driving an “off-road vehicle,” indicates Ève Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. This is a homemade snowmobile or all-terrain vehicle (ATV). He was traveling on Ladds-Mills Road while a pickup truck was coming in the opposite direction.

For an unknown reason, the teenager veered off course and hit the van head-on in a head-on collision. The occupants of the van were not injured. The 13-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A Sûreté du Québec patrol officer specializing in collision investigations was dispatched to the scene on Sunday to try to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.
