Estrie | A motorcyclist loses his life in a face-to-face collision with a heavy goods vehicle

(Quebec) A motorcyclist lost his life after a face-to-face encounter with a heavy goods vehicle in Estrie.


The collision occurred Sunday morning, around 7:30 a.m., on Route 202 in Bedford.

“According to the first information collected, the driver of the motorcycle deviated from his lane, for an unknown reason, and hit a tractor-trailer which was coming in the opposite direction,” indicated Sergeant Catherine Bernard, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Both vehicles caught fire following the impact.

“The driver of the motorcycle unfortunately died at the scene, while the driver of the truck suffered a nervous shock, but was not transported to the hospital,” said the SQ spokesperson.

An investigation by the Sûreté du Québec is underway.

Route 202 was still closed in both directions at Marziali Street, in Bedford, around 9 a.m. for an indefinite period. Traffic should be avoided in the area from Rang Brais.

An SQ police officer specializing in collision investigations was called to the scene “in order to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the events.

The motorcyclist was alone in his vehicle at the time of the head-on collision. His identity was not immediately released.
