Estrie | A caregiver between life and death when an ambulance leaves the road

A major accident involving an ambulance occurred Sunday evening on Highway 10, near Eastman, in Estrie. All four people in the ambulance suffered serious injuries. A paramedic finds himself between life and death.

For an unknown reason, the ambulance veered off the road while traveling eastbound on Highway 10 late Sunday. At kilometer 104.5, she lost control, overturned and hit a rock wall on the side of the highway, explains Camille Savoie, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

Emergency services were called to the scene at 5:45 p.m. All four people in the ambulance were taken to hospital with serious injuries. One of them, a caregiver, is in critical condition, said Mme Savoy.

Road conditions were not favorable at the time of the accident, although it is impossible at this stage to know whether they played a role in the tragedy. At the same time, other road accidents had also taken place in the area, underlined Mr.me Savoy.

An SQ reconstructionist went to the scene to analyze the scene and better understand the circumstances of the accident.

Highway 10 was closed between 100 and 106 Sunday evening. A detour via Route 112 has been made.
