For the first time in its history, Alfa Romeo is launching a limited edition offered worldwide. Called “Estrema” (an Italian word meaning extreme), it joins the Giulia and Stelvio range for the 2023 model year.
Contrary to what the name suggests, the Limited Edition isn’t meant to be the ultimate expression of Alfa Romeo models, slipping instead between the Veloce and Quadrifoglio versions.
The Estrema inherits from the second its limited-slip differential and its standard active suspension, which adjusts the damping in real time in order to optimize road holding, sometimes comfort. This is done taking into account of course the driving mode chosen via the wheel on the console.
Interesting fact: the Alfa Romeo Formula 1 team has collaborated with the manufacturer, in particular with the aim of making the vehicles lighter and more manageable. However, the weight reduction is not specified.
Nothing changes on the engine side compared to the Veloce version. The Giulia Estrema and Stelvio Estrema use the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder, which develops 280 horsepower and 306 lb-ft of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission. Their acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes 5.1 and 5.6 seconds respectively, according to Alfa Romeo.
Design wise, there is carbon fiber trim on the grille and mirror caps, dark “Estrema” badging on the fenders and rear, and a gloss black finish for the center pillars, surround side windows, brake calipers and rims (19 inches on the sedan, 21 inches on the SUV). A package including wider rear wheels and tires is available, not to mention the choice of four body colors: Alfa Rosso, Alfa White, Misano Blue and Volcanic Black.
Finally, the interior stands out with red stitching on the various leather surfaces, carbon fiber accents similar to those found in the Quadrifoglio version and of course sports seats. There’s a dual-pane sunroof and a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Canadian retail prices are $66,995 for the Giulia Estrema and $68,495 for the Stelvio Estrema, plus freight and delivery charges of $2,095. It is already possible to order a copy. Deliveries should begin this summer.
