The lack of staff in nursing homes has repercussions on the health of residents. This situation is denounced by caregivers, but also by residents’ families.
Residents neglected, toilets dispatched, links with caregivers increasingly tenaked, employees and families of residents of the Ehpad of Bezons (Val-d’Oise) denounce the consequences of the lack of staff on the well-being of the residents. The cause, increasingly severe budgetary restrictions due to inflation, the cost of energy or even has the payroll.
Two thirds of nursing homes in France are in deficit. According to an expert, social security must increase its share of support. “We cannot ask today for an additional effort from those who already pay 70% of the cost, families who can no longer cope”explains Luc Broussy, organizer of the National Nursing Home Conference. As of January 1, 2025, the law for healthy aging will allow establishments to increase rates for the most affluent residents. Prices could be increased by 10% to 15%.
