As the cybercriminals demanded a $10 million ransom for not leaking the hacked data, the hospital refused to pay.

New twist in the case of the hospital hacked a month ago in the Essonne department, south of Paris. The hospital refused to pay the ransom and the hackers just released the data. “According to the hospital’s press release, this would be data concerning their users, their staff and their partners. They refer to administrative data, such as social security numbers, but also health data, such as examination reports”explains Eléana Bonnasse, live from the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital.

“The hackers therefore carried out their threats, since the hospital had until Friday to pay the ransom of 10 million dollars, before the dissemination of these data. They are very popular with cyber-criminals, since they can allow them to commit other crimes, such as identity theft.Since the cyber-attack, the hospital has been idling. The emergency department is only half functioning, some prescriptions are handwritten. As of now, the ransom has still not been paid.”she concludes.
