Participating in a videoconference, updating your computer, or even simply sending an email: not so easy for a large part of the French, who encounter difficulties with digital tools.

Knowing how to use digital tools is essential, agrees the vast majority of French people. But it is also complicated for 20% of them, and stressful, for 14%. The training school for digital professions Simplon and Ifop draw up, in a survey which has just been published, a not so rosy inventory of the understanding of the French with the world of new technologies.

When asked in which areas the lack of digital skills is the biggest obstacle, work comes first. 88% believe that you have to know how to juggle digital tools to find a job, 86% to develop professionally and 78% to keep a job. And yet, pMore than a quarter of them, 26%, encounter difficulties. They are even 4% to admit not to get out of it. The highest levels are found among those who do not have the baccalaureate and who live in rural communes.

The pet peeve is changing the configuration settings of your computer or smartphone. Two-thirds of the French row with it. But one figure stands out: while we believe that employees are experienced in the work tools they use every day, this is not the case. 58% of them have already encountered difficulties using classic office software such as Excel or Word and no less than 53% of respondents have already had trouble with their mailbox. And, badly in recent years, participation in a video conference, for its part, gives a hard time to no less than 48% of respondents. It’s uncomplicated!

We can ask ourselves the question of the consequences that the health crisis has had on the question since remote work has required intensive use of digital tools. There, it is almost perfect equality. For 15% of respondents, the crisis has revealed problems related to digital skills, but there are also 14% of French people who believe that the crisis has pushed them to improve their skills in this area.
