The presidential candidate Éric Zemmour was hit in the wrist during his first campaign meeting, Sunday, December 5 in Villepinte (Seine-Saint-Denis), according to information sent by his entourage to franceinfo. As Eric Zemmour crossed the room to join the stage, a man rushed on him, causing a stampede.
The suspect is 27 years old and lives in La Garenne-Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine), according to a source close to the file at franceinfo. Arrested on Sunday, he is still in custody on Monday, franceinfo learned from the Bobigny prosecutor’s office. The far-right presidential candidate was grabbed by a man as he walked onto the stage at Villepinte Exhibition Center (Seine-Saint-Denis) to start his first campaign rally.
According to his lawyer at franceinfo, an AP-HP doctor prescribed 9 days of ITT to Eric Zemmour for a wrist strain and neck pain. The Bobigny prosecutor’s office told franceinfo to wait for confirmation from ITT these days. Eric Zemmour’s lawyer, Olivier Pardo, believes on franceinfo that “it is serious to see the will to attack a candidate for the presidential election in a rally”. He specifies that the far-right candidate files a complaint for “violence aggravated with premeditation” or “ambush”, and that this qualification will be formalized by the judge. The complaint was filed Sunday evening by the security manager of Eric Zemmour.
Sunday, the police carried out about sixty arrests in Villepinte, mostly for demonstration in a prohibited perimeter, outside the Parc des Expositions. The Bobigny parquet indicates Monday “sort” by verifying the conditions of these arrests, the legal regularity of police custody and the qualifications retained.
An investigation is also opened and entrusted to the departmental security on the acts of violence committed inside the Parc des Expositions. During Éric Zemmour’s meeting, SOS Racism activists were notably beaten before being evacuated from the room. Journalists have also been scolded. The association’s lawyer tells franceinfo that a dozen activists will file a complaint by Tuesday. All have been hit, some are injured. Among them, three activists were improperly arrested by members of Eric Zemmour’s security service and then delivered to the police who released them on Monday morning, their lawyer said, specifying that these people will also file a complaint for slanderous denunciation.
