Eric Zemmour had promised, a few months ago, that he would be the future President of the Republic, or the future leader of the opposition. It will be neither. The founder of Reconquest! was eliminated in the first round of the legislative elections, Sunday June 12, in the 4th constituency of the Var where he presented himself, like the vice president, Guillaume Peltier, in the Loir-et-Cher and all the party candidates. In fact, the political formation, which accounts for 4% at the national level, will not send any deputy to the National Assembly. And inevitably within Reconquête!, we begin to wonder about the future.

Two months, two routs. Until the end, Eric Zemmour himself believed that he could qualify for the second round in the Var. But the far-right ex-candidate for the Elysee Palace finished third with 23.19% of the vote. “He is a bit knocked out, the legislative elections are a personal defeat“, breathes a support.

Next week, a political committee will meet to prepare the rest. Some are already imagining a major overhaul in the coming months, in terms of line, direction. Without going so far as to mention the taboo subject: Eric Zemmour, without a mandate and two defeats on the clock, can and will he remain at the head of his party? Reconquest! in any case will have to tighten their belts.

The legislative will bring in just over a million euros per year, not enough to operate. Especially since it will be necessary to organize “militant actions” to maintain the flame, says a leader. Because the next election is far away: the Europeans in 2024, two years to redo… or undo.
