The sun leaves its general director, Éric Trottier, less than two years after taking office. His position would have been abolished in a particularly difficult financial context for the Quebec daily newspaper.
The departure of Éric Trottier, who was for a long time vice-president of the information department at The Press, was announced to employees Thursday morning. This news comes a week after the Coops de l’info, of which The sunannounced that 125 employees, or approximately a third of their workforce, have joined the voluntary departure program.
These cuts were made necessary by the end, on December 30, of the printing of the weekend edition of the six regional dailies of the Coops de l’info. By 2020, all six newspapers had already ceased to be printed on weekdays.
The six regional newspapers (The sun, The right, The Voice of the East, The Daily, The Nouvelliste And The gallery) have been particularly affected by the media crisis in recent years. They became cooperatives at the end of 2019 after the bankruptcy of Capital Media, the company that owned them.
