“The Prime Minister reaffirmed yesterday [lundi] all the trust she had in me“, said Tuesday Eric Dupond-Moretti, Minister of Justice. The day before, the Court of Justice of the Republic decided to refer him to trial for “illegal taking of interests”. But the Keeper of the Seals indicated that his resignation from the governmentwas not on the agenda“. Eric Dupond-Moretti has been indicted since July 2021 and would like to point out that this has “never interfered with (his) work“.
The CJR, the only body empowered to try members of the government for crimes or misdemeanors committed in the exercise of their mandate, ordered a trial against Eric Dupond-Moretti on Monday, a first for a Minister of Justice in office. He is accused of having taken advantage of his position to settle accounts with magistrates whom he had opposed when he was a lawyer. His lawyers Christophe Ingrain and Rémi Lorrain indicated that they had “immediately” lodged an appeal in cassation.
Asked by AFP, Matignon said on Monday that the former tenor of the bars had “all the confidence of the Prime Minister“Elisabeth Borne and that”the question of his remaining in government did not (arise)“.”An appeal in cassation has been filed and I will assert a certain number of points of law. And if I had to be judged, I would say what I have to say, I am a litigant like any other“, added the minister on the sidelines of a trip to Paris.
