Éric Dupond-Moretti is suspected of having taken advantage of his function as Minister of Justice to settle accounts with certain magistrates whom he had opposed when he was a lawyer. The Keeper of the Seals was referred to the Court of Justice of the Republic, Monday, October 3.

The judges of the Court of Justice of the Republic took their decision, Monday, October 3: Éric Dupond-Moretti must be tried for illegal taking of interests. The Minister of Justice would have used his position to settle accounts with former magistrates with whom he had dealt when he was a lawyer. Two investigations ordered by the Keeper of the Seals are in question. The first concerns magistrates from the national financial prosecutor’s office who had gone through his telephone bills in a corruption case.

The second investigation concerns an investigating judge stationed in Monaco. Eric Dupond-Moretti, when he was still a lawyer, had denounced the methods used by this judge against one of his clients. For the lawyers of the Keeper of the Seals, their client has only followed the roadmap of the Ministry of Justice. Last week, Eric Dupond-Moretti had ruled out having to resign. MPs are divided on the issue. The Minister immediately appealed to the Court of Cassation, which suspends the decision of the Court of Justice of the Republic.
