Éric Duhaime will meet the new president of the FTQ

The leader of the Conservative Party of Quebec (PCQ), Éric Duhaime, who has repeatedly criticized the unions, will meet this Monday the new president of the Quebec Federation of Labor (FTQ), Magali Picard. The latter recently called him a “populist”.

The interview, which was requested by Mr. Duhaime’s team, will take place around 10 a.m. in the offices of the FTQ, in Montreal, learned The duty. The Conservative leader wants to meet Ms. Picard to establish a dialogue about improving the working conditions of Quebecers.

In interview at Sun in January, the first aboriginal woman elected president of the FTQ expressed concern that 12.91% of voters voted for the PCQ on October 3. This is a party that “works against” Quebecers, she said. “As a trade unionist, it sends me the message that I haven’t done my job properly, that I haven’t gone far enough in my communications”.

Magali Picard had also described Mr. Duhaime as “populist” without “any depth”.

In late January, Conservative health spokesman Dr. Karim Elayoubi claimed that the PCQ was not “anti-union,” but rather in favor of state efficiency.

Like the unions, he also asked the government of François Legault to abolish the use of “compulsory overtime” (TSO) in the health network. Mr. Elayoubi called for a bill to eradicate this practice within two years.

In 2013, Éric Duhaime published an essay entitled Free us from the unions!. The latter “have truly become the main force of inertia that today prevents Quebec from modernizing,” he maintained.
