Éric Duhaime pastiche the Legault government

The Conservative Party posted a holiday ad on Facebook on Monday. “A pastiche of the Legault government pubs, but more unifying and less decisive,” writes Éric Duhaime. The video garnered almost 3,000 likes.

“In Quebec, grandparents, children and grandchildren, vaccinated or not. Gathered to celebrate Christmas. We call it a Quebec family. Let’s put an end to prejudices ”. The text directly refers to the CAQ’s controversial campaign on systemic racism, while criticizing the restrictions on gatherings announced for Christmas.

The CAQ advertisement, which was part of the campaign against racism, explained that “five people of Arab origin gathered in an apartment” form a “Quebec family”. Describing the video as a “nationalist campaign”, the director had requested his withdrawal from social networks, and specified that the word “Quebecois” had been added without his agreement.

Eric Duhaime’s publications have also already created controversy. At the end of November, the Conservative Party deleted from its Facebook page a video using an excerpt from the Bougons, without having sought the agreement of the creators of the series. The right-wing political formation was committed to “reviewing the notion of copyright”, and this time, it must be recognized that Eric Duhaime has remained sober.

The text is displayed on a black background, then a royalty-free image appears, representing a “Quebec family”. In the comments, several supporters support the initiative, while some criticize the choice of photo. Never a Quebecer would have had “a huge bowl of corn on the table at Christmas”.

Others do not dwell on the direct reference to Legault’s campaign, and instead offer suggestions to the party leader. “It’s amateurish”, “the sound is not good” or even “lack of punch and content … I call it an advertising draft”, we can read in the comments.

The Legault government has yet to react to the publication.
