Eric Coquerel and Charles de Courson at Matignon to demand the ceiling letters

Eric Coquerel (La France insoumise) and Charles de Courson (Liberties, Independents, Overseas and Territories) are demanding accountability. The president and general rapporteur of the Finance Committee of the National Assembly went to Matignon on Tuesday, September 17, to request the ceiling letters. These documents set the credits of the ministries within the framework of the 2025 budget project.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier explained in a letter to the chairman of the Finance Committee that the budget would be “built on the basis of these ceiling letters”adopted by the outgoing government and communicated to the ministries on August 20, explained the La France Insoumise MP.

In this letter, the head of government promises to communicate to him by the end of the week “a provisional version” of “reprinted”report summarizing the amount of credits by mission and the general guidelines of the budget, drawn up on the basis of these ceiling letters and the transmission of which was normally planned before July 15.

The dissolution of the Assembly followed by early legislative elections, then the appointment of a new Prime Minister late in September, have, however, significantly tightened the timetable for presenting the budget. Michel Barnier, who must present his roadmap in a general policy statement “early October”plans to present its draft budget to the National Assembly on October 9, instead of the 1st, as recommended by the organic law.

“We are two months behind schedule with respect to the organic law (…) we are expected to have an eight-day delay in the submission of the budget (…) and so we do not want to participate further in this delay and this poor way of dealing with the National Assembly”justified Eric Coquerel in front of the press on his arrival at Matignon.
