Éric Ciotti will defend an amendment to no longer subsidize associations “which turn against the State”

The president of the Republicans also denounces the immigration bill and does not rule out tabling a motion of censure if the government passes the text in force.

Eric Ciotti “will defend an amendment” as part of the budgetary debates on the finance bill Wednesday October 25, aiming to halve the billion euros in subsidies granted to associations working in the field of “immigration, asylum and integration”.

Guest of France Inter, the president of the Republicans and deputy for Alpes-Maritimes specifies that he no longer wishes to help the associations which, according to him, “attack the State”.

The elected official believes that a selection must be made because “there are associations that do sincere, humanitarian integration work”. For example, those who help “to refugees who come from Ukraine and who pose no difficulty”.

Abusive procedures that prevent evictions

The president of the Republicans “find that we are in a system that is going wrong”a system “incoherent and totally schizophrenic” because “the State finances associations which turn against the State”. Éric Ciotti explains: France “has difficulty removing people who no longer have a place in our territory, including delinquents, because there are abusive procedures which are carried out sometimes for several years. And these procedures are fueled by these associations which are financed by the State”.

The deputy for Alpes-Maritimes considers that “the State is not obliged to delegate its missions to associations”that he has the “capacity to assume” without having “to feed adversaries who simply want to increase migratory flows”.

Éric Ciotti regrets that France unblocks “one billion [d’euros] for associations” who come to the aid of migrants but “ten times less for expulsions”.

A bill without consultation

While the immigration bill will be examined in the Senate from November 6, the president of the Republicans assures France Inter that no “consultation was not led by the Prime Minister or the Minister of the Interior”. Éric Ciotti specifies that there is “had an exchange between the president of the LR group in the Senate [Bruno Retailleau] and the Prime Minister”Elisabeth Borne.

“Contrary to what was said in the press – and I spoke with Bruno Retailleau – the Prime Minister has in no case said that she would withdraw article 3”. This plans to create a residence permit for professions in shortage. “We cannot, in the same text, say that we are going to be firmer on one side, and call out illegal immigration on the other side”repeats Eric Ciotti.

The Republicans “will table a motion of censure” if the government triggers article 49.3 of the Constitution, retaining this article 3.

Republicans denounce a communication text

The president of the Republicans is not “disagree with the analysis” of the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, who defended in the Journal du Dimanche (article reserved for subscribers), the “firmest text” for 30 years. “Each time, the law that is announced is the strongest and toughest law. This immigration bill is a communication text”retorts Eric Ciotti.

“We’ve been hearing these speeches for 40 years.”

He claims that the “position” LRs “is clear: “If we do not modify our Constitution, nothing will change”. Éric Ciotti develops: “There have been 23 laws against the development of immigration in 20 years. They have all been powerless, have come up against the wall of international rules, conventions, and the case law of our supreme courts [la Cour de cassation, le Conseil d’Etat, le Conseil constitutionnel].”
