“We are the union of the right and nothing else.” The president of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, requested, Thursday June 20, a “immediate rectification” of the official classification of LR candidates supported by the National Rally in the legislative elections. The candidates nominated in the name of the alliance between LR and the RN were labeled under the banner “union of the extreme right” by the Ministry of the Interior, which constitutes “a low maneuver of the macronie” And “a democratic scandal of unprecedented gravity”according to Eric Ciotti.

The leader of the Republicans denounces “stigma” of his alliance and a “Two weights, two measures” in relation to the fate reserved for the New Popular Front. “The alliance of socialists, the NPA and the Insoumis is simply described as ‘a union of the left’ by Mr. Darmanin”he denounces. “This ambivalence of treatment is blatant: on the one hand, patriotic French people are unfairly labeled, and on the other, a seditious, factious and anti-Semitic extreme left benefits from much gentler terminology.”

The National Rally had already contested the classification made by the Ministry of the Interior for the senatorial elections, where the flame party had been grouped into the “extreme right” bloc. The party chaired by Jordan Bardella considered that this decision undermined the “sincerity of the vote”. This classification was confirmed by the Council of State in March.
