Who of Valérie Pécresse or Eric Ciotti will wear the color of the Republicans for the presidential elections of 2022? The presence of the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes in the second round, who arrives very slightly in the lead, is a surprise.
Éric Ciotti, surprise of the first round of the Les Républicains congress, is ahead of Valérie Pécresse by a short head, Thursday, December 2. He wins with a right-wing policy, and an anti-immigration discourse reminiscent of that of Eric Zemmour. “I wanted to place this campaign of the truth, of the truth on the situation of a country in the process of declassification, decline”, said the latter in particular. Its strengths, according to its supporters? Clarity and loyalty. “He remained true to his ideas, and at the same time he also remained true to his political family”, confides Paul Gillard, of the Young people with Ciotti.
Neck to neck, Valérie Pécresse, the president of the Ile-de-France region, plays two cards: a liberal line in economics, and firmness on security. “I don’t have a trembling hand”, she assured, declaring to carry “a project of frank rupture” and of “assumed right”. The finalist has already been joined by Philippe Juvin and Xavier Bertrand. The latter, the favorite, who came fourth, was brutally eliminated. Michel Barnier, too, confided that he believed “that Valérie Pécresse is the best prepared”. For activists, the vote for the second round begins Friday, December 3, at 8 a.m.
