What I know about you, first novel by Quebecer Éric Chacour, is still in the running for the Femina Prize. The jury revealed its second selection on Tuesday.
Mr. Chacour’s novel, published in Quebec by Alto and in France by Philippe Rey, remains in the running with Watch over herby Jean-Baptiste Andrea (The Iconoclast), The faded memory by Nathacha Appanah (Mercure de France), Lightning by Pierric Bailly (POL), To my and only sister by Guy Boley (Grasset), The alchemies by Sarah Chiche (Seuil), On the job by Franck Courtès (Gallimard), The castle of the rentiers by Agnès Desarthe (L’Olivier), Sand merchants by Agnès Mathieu-Daudé (Flammarion), and Sad Tiger Snow Sinno (POL).
Claudie Hunzinger won the jury’s favor last year for the French novel A dog at my table (Grasset). Remember that Gabrielle Roy won the Femina in 1947, with Second-hand happiness, taken up by Flammarion. She was the first foreign and French-speaking Canadian laureate. Nancy Huston also won the prize in 2006 for Fault lines (South Acts).
As for foreign novels, The diplomatby Lucy Fricke, in its French translation by Isabelle Liber and its edition of Le Quartanier, is not part of the second selection.
And the tests
The jury also revealed its first selection of essays. We find there Artificial intelligence, human intelligence. The double enigma by Daniel Andler (Gallimard), René Girard. Biography by Benoit Chantre (Grasset), The last place by Négar Djavadi (Stock), Gaslighting or the art of silencing women by Hélène Frappat (L’Observatoire), Unbelong by Sophie Kepes (Maurice Nadeau), My Roaring Twenties by Jean-Pierre Le Goff (Robert Laffont), Anger and forgetting by Hugo Micheron (Gallimard), 3 girls (Saint-Phalle, Bourgeois, Messager) by Nathalie Piegay (Seuil), A Philosophy of Wine by Pierre-Yves Quiviger (Albin Michel) and Wisdom of politics by Perrine Simon-Nahum (L’Observatoire).
The Femina finalists will be known on Tuesday October 24, the winner on Monday November 6.
