Éric Alan Caldwell appointed President of the STM

Valérie Plante unveiled on Wednesday the composition of its executive committee, which will be predominantly female. The mayor has also appointed Hochelaga’s councilor, Éric Alan Caldwell, as president of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) to take over from Philippe Schnobb who had already announced his departure.

As announced during the election campaign, Dominique Ollivier will chair the executive committee made up of 14 people. As of Thursday morning, she will conduct her first meeting.

She will be surrounded by Benoit Dorais, who will occupy the position of vice-president and manage housing, real estate strategy and legal affairs files, and advisor Ericka Alneus, who will take care of culture and heritage files. Robert Beaudry will be responsible for urban planning and large parks, while Josefina Blanco inherits those concerning diversity, social inclusion and homelessness.

As announced during the election campaign, it is Dominique Ollivier (foreground, left) who will chair the executive committee of the City of Montreal, confirmed Mayor Valérie Plante.

Sophie Mauzerolle will take charge of transport and mobility affairs, Magda Popeanu, those of organizational performance and Luc Rabouin retains his responsibilities for economic and commercial development. Émilie Thuillier will take care of infrastructure and buildings.

Councilor Alain Vaillancourt will lead the delicate public security issue and Maja Vodanovic will take care of consultation with the boroughs and the water issue.

By appointing Éric Alan Caldwell as president of the STM, Valérie Plante is renewing the tradition that existed before 2009 when this position was held by an elected official. Recall that in 2009, Mayor Gérald Tremblay broke with this tradition and appointed Michel Labrecque, who had lost his election, to this post. “We want the STM’s priorities to be reflected within the executive committee,” explained Mayor Plante.

Further details will follow.
