Remember, in 2012, professional football player Éric Abidal received an organ donation from his cousin. A liver transplant that had saved the athlete’s life when the latter was suffering from cancer… A great story that would not be one in the end! And for good reason, since a few years ago, the Spanish police opened an investigation after raising several irregularities in the administrative procedure of this organ donation.
The former FC Barcelona player, but also the former president of the Blaugrana club, Sandro Rosell were therefore at the heart of an investigation for organ trafficking… And for good reason, when his phone was tapped, the former president of FC Barcelona claimed to have “bought” a liver for Éric Abidal.
A controversy which obviously reacted to the cousin of the football player, Gérard Armand. Questioned by our colleagues from La Dépêche, the man who claims to have given part of his liver to save Éric Abidal decided to clarify certain rumours, in particular the one which suggests that he received remuneration for his donation of organ. “Nothing not a penny!” How can we wonder about that? I simply donated my organ to save a member of my family. I did not think. It’s a good deed, as simple as anyone would do to help a sick loved one.” did he declare.
And to add: The journalists, in particular Spanish, tell anything. Everyone thinks I got money and some extended family members would like me to help them, but I don’t have a penny! »he concluded.
