“As Vladimir Putin’s Russia multiplies war crimes in Ukraine, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the shadow of global emotion, plans to launch yet another bloodthirsty offensive against the Kurds of northern Syria”, say the signatories of this forum published on the website of the weekly newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

The Turkish president “takes advantage of his status as a NATO pivot in the context of the conflict in Ukraine to obtain the blank check from the Atlantic Alliance in order to intensify his attacks in northern Syria”, believe these deputies and Communist senators, LFI (radical left), socialists, environmentalists but also some LR (right) or from the party of President Emmanuel Macron.

“Western countries must no longer look away”, launch these elected officials who call on the Member States of the European Union “to guarantee the protection of Kurdish activists and associations present on European soil”.

They also invite France to seize the UN Security Council “to decree a no-fly zone in northern Syria and place the Kurds of Syria under international protection”, and ask that the Autonomous Administration of the North and of eastern Syria (Aanes) “can benefit from international recognition”.

Mr Erdogan has repeatedly threatened to launch a military offensive against Kurdish militants in northern Syria, in order to create a “safe zone”, following an operation carried out in 2019.
