Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in before Parliament for his third term on Saturday June 3, nearly a week after his re-election with 52% of the vote. To the applause of his camp, which holds the majority of the 600 seats, the Head of State asked his opponents to “find a way to make peace”.

“Let’s put aside the resentments and anger of this election period”, he launched. “We expect the opposition to act with a sense of responsibility for Turkey’s well-being and democracy”he chained before asking “to the parties” but also “to journalists, writers, civil society, artists [de se] reconcile with the national will”.

The expected composition of the government

Opposition MPs remained seated as the assembly rose after the oath and address by the President. The 56-year-old was Minister of Finance from 2009 to 2015, then Deputy Prime Minister for the Economy until 2018.
