Equipment breakdown: tough morning for REM

Users of the Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM) had to be patient on Thursday morning, since transport was disrupted across the entire network due to a power supply problem.

“During maintenance work, there was an equipment breakdown which required a major repair […] There was zero power supply, therefore no current in both directions, which made it rather complex to “wake up the trains” this morning,” indicated Michelle Lamarche, communications manager for the REM. , at 98.5.

Service gradually returned to normal around 7:35 a.m. and stabilized shortly after.

Around 5:30 a.m., the service announced through its social networks that a technical problem was causing an interruption of service in both directions. An hour later, a tweet clarified that it was a power problem.

A relief bus service is available to travelers. You can view the list of buses here.

According to the REM recovery plan, “in the event of an interruption of the REM lasting more than 20 minutes during peak hours or more than 30 minutes outside peak hours, buses will be deployed as soon as possible by the REM partners, namely the Réseau de transport de Longueuil (RTL), the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and by exo, depending on the extent of the needs.
