Equestrian Canada | Éric Lamaze steps down as technical advisor

(Ottawa) Olympic champion Éric Lamaze will step down as technical advisor to Equestrian Canada when his contract expires at the end of the month.

This was announced by the national federation in a press release. The Lamaze agreement will expire on January 31, 2023.

Equestrian Canada (EC) said in a news release that its staff and the Show Jumping High Performance Advisory Group (HPAG) “will share the various current roles and responsibilities of the Technical Advisor position on an interim basis in order to ensure that the team’s athletes receive the necessary support in this important year of the Pan American Games”.

Lamaze won gold in the individual event and silver in the team event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics alongside Hickstead.

The 54-year-old Montrealer has been battling brain cancer since 2017. He last represented the country on the international stage in 2021, playing an instrumental role in the Canadian show jumping team’s victory at the BMO Nations Cup at Spruce Meadows in Calgary.

“Eric has shown great passion and enthusiasm for the sport in his role as Technical Advisor. We would like to thank him for his year of working with our team and program athletes,” said James Hood, CE High Performance Director. With his health improving, we can’t wait to see him back in the saddle and watch his coaching work continue. »

The 2023 Pan American Games will take place starting October 20 in Santiago, Chile.
