(Halifax) The Legault government refuses to change the equalization formula from which Quebec largely benefits, but which is contested in particular by Newfoundland and Labrador.
British Columbia announced Wednesday that it is supporting a court challenge by Newfoundland and Labrador, a province that is required to contribute to equalization and which believes the formula is unfair.
British Columbia Premier David Eby made the announcement on the sidelines of the Council of the Federation summer summit, which brought together all provincial premiers in Halifax for three days.
But at the final press conference of this instance, Mr. Legault affirmed that it is important for Quebec to continue to receive equalization, to ensure that citizens across the country can receive equivalent services.
