On the occasion of the resumption of debates in the National Assembly on Tuesday, EELV elected officials wore “warming stripes” to ask the government to intensify its efforts for the ecological transition.

No new school bag for the start of the parliamentary term, but new t-shirts. The deputies of the environmentalist group in the National Assembly were threatened with a call to order by the president of the session, Tuesday, September 26, after wearing an outfit on which appeared a graphic on the climate crisis. “If today we wear the ‘warming stripes’, which illustrate the acceleration of global warming, it is to solemnly remind you of the urgency”explained the elected EELV of Paris Eva Sas, during questions to the government.

“You do not have to express any opinion in this chamber by your clothing”lamented the President of the Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet. “Either you respect our rules, or I call you to order”she said, getting the ten deputies who had stood up to cover their t-shirts with a jacket or sweater. “Our debates must be respectful of our institutions, the French and our rules”she added, before concluding: “I don’t want to see this again during this session.”

In response to Eva Sas, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, criticized the environmentalists’ initiative. “I understand that, not to talk about the substance, you choose the form and a kind of happening”he said. “Instead of hiding behind ready-made formulas, you should recognize the work that has been done”he replied to the elected official, who asked “a major law for programming the ecological transition”.
