Prime Minister Gabriel Attal’s announcements to appease the anger of farmers are angering nature defenders. The latter see it as a brake on French environmental policy.

Gabriel Attal was expected, Friday January 26, by farmers but also by defenders of living things. A missed opportunity for environmental associations which denounce short-term announcements which respond neither to the future challenges of farmers nor to climate issues. First disappointment: the megabasins. The Prime Minister wants to make legal recourse against these installations more difficult. Another concern: the preservation of wet waters, an essential refuge for living species, sometimes coveted as agricultural land. The Prime Minister announced a pause during the consultation.

Support the development of more environmentally friendly agriculture

Also afraid of hedges. While a plan has just been voted on, the government already wants to revise it to ease regulations, a missed opportunity to reconcile agriculture and the preservation of living things according to scientists. The High Council for the Climate has just published a report which recommends supporting the development of agriculture that is more respectful of living things; the government has not spoken about it, to the great regret of the associations.
