The 13 Hours continues its ride on the island of Yeu, off the coast of Vendée, Friday July 7th. A fragile natural jewel whose inhabitants are mobilizing to preserve it in order to continue to enjoy it.

From the top of its 41 meters, the lighthouse of the island of Yeu (Vendée) is a little the watchtower of the island. At its summit, nature reveals itself: a wild setting still preserved. Sandrine Desmarest is a guide on the island. A still wild island that must be preserved at all costs. After taking a guided tour of the lighthouse, Sandrine Desmarest gets on her bike to go on her second mission of the day. She paints indications on rocks, so as not to install road signs. She notes on one of them that a beach is a classified site.

A daily challenge

Passionate about the island’s flora and fauna, Sandrine Desmarest never lets go of her binoculars for very long. To protect their island, the inhabitants are making efforts, as evidenced by the latest addition to the fleet which provides the link with the mainland: the Insula Oya III, built for the transport of passengers and especially goods. All dockside activities of the ship are powered by the electricity grid. Protecting the environment and biodiversity on the island remains a daily challenge.
