Developing hydrogen to do without fossil fuels, is that a good idea? Elements of response with journalist Sandrine Feydel, present on the set of 19/20, Friday March 31.
Is hydrogen a miracle technology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions? “Hydrogen is a major option, but under certain conditions. It all depends on how it is produced“, explains journalist Sandrine Feydel, present on the set of 19/20, Friday March 31. “If the electricity used for this operation comes from renewable energies (…) we are talking about green hydrogen. The problem for now is that 95% of hydrogen comes from fossil fuels. Only 5% of hydrogen is green“, says the journalist.
9 billion euros to develop the sector
France would like to increase the share of green hydrogen. “It has put 9 billion euros to develop the sector. For the moment the country only produces 13MW but it has the ambition to reach 6.5GW by 2030“, reveals Sandrine Feydel. In any case, hydrogen has a future in “the steel industry or the cement industry, sectors that use a lot of fossil fuels“, concludes the journalist.
