To combat thermal strainers, some homeowners opt for hemp insulation. What about this ecological and economical solution?

In Pecquencourt, in a mining town in the North, hemp is hidden behind the pretty red bricks. This plant is used to insulate century-old housing, classified as a UNESCO world heritage site. Thanks to hemp, a resident saves money. Reduced bills are a way of helping the inhabitants of this city, managed by a social landlord. In all, 321 homes are insulated with hemp.

Develop the sector

Cork, recycled cotton, sheep’s wool, several natural materials were tested before deciding in favor of hemp concrete blocks. Hemp is not just cannabis leaves. France has been cultivating it for millennia, particularly to make cob houses. This plant could soon reconquer our fields to fight against global warming, because it insulates from the cold and heat in summer. In Seine-et-Marne, a group of farmers believe strongly in it and are working with manufacturers to develop the sector.
